Message from the Chairwoman
The Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation is proud to celebrate our 26th year serving communities locally and nationally, as the lead provider for education and preventive resources related to skin cancer, primarily focused on the deadliest form, Melanoma. 1 in 5 Americans will be diagnosed with Melanoma in their lifetime, and more than one million Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer each year; from a disease that is almost 100% preventable. The Foundations mission is to save lives through education about the prevention, and early detection of skin cancer, especially Melanoma.
The RDK Foundation donations support our Students Against Melanoma (SAM’s clubs), and Sun Smart America Students, that all play a vital role in sharing our message with middle school, high school, and college students. This network of students continually empowers and educates their peers, families, and communities, regarding the importance of sun safety and early detection. In expansion of current initiatives, the Foundation was recently selected by the Leadership of Palm Beach County’s “Engage Forward” Program to assist in developing an interactive, entertaining, and educational experience that will be presented annually to over 196,000 children in Palm Beach County school district.
The Foundation continues its partnership with Hall of Fame champion, and RDK Board Member, Mike Schmidt, and the Phillies baseball team, to educate the city of Philadelphia concerning the importance of sun safety. Citizens Bank Park has recently been equipped with state of the art, ecofriendly, durable, and informative sunscreen dispensers that will be utilized by Phillies fans for all future home games. The Foundation is continuing nationally, with the establishment of Sun Safe Cities, corporate and private sponsors, and the placement of these dispensers in parks, beaches, and stadiums, while simultaneously outreaching and providing educational resources to communities.
The RDK annual luncheon and Fashion show is a highly anticipated event, that is attended by over 400 guests, corporate sponsors, and community leaders, who gather to celebrate in support of our fundraising endeavors and mission.
THIS YEAR’S LUNCHEON AND RUNWAY FASHION SHOW, WILL BE HELD ON JANUARY 24TH 2022 AT THE BREAKERS PALM BEACH FEATURING INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED DESIGNER J. MENDEL.
As a charitable organization, we kindly ask you support our efforts, by generously becoming a monetary sponsor or by donating and item, basket, or gift certificate as an auction item.
We thank you in advance for your consideration of our request, please contact the Foundation if you have any questions or interested in getting involved at www.melanomfoundation.com or call 561-655-9655.
